Still no promised local API, and the "API" they provided is just some preset webhooks at a public IP. So damn nasty!

I think you both have the wrong idea here. The API will be for controlling the X1 hub, NOT for allowing connection to other services. So you will be able to write a component for Home Assistant to control the X1 hub (and see devices/activities/etc), but you will not be able to control Home Assistant with the X1.

I'm pretty sure that holding the reset button on the back of the device for 3-5 seconds just resets wifi configuration, not your devices/activities. I had to do it on mine, and my devices were still there.

I asked them about this via email and they mentioned that the public API should be available in May. Pretty good turnaround really, provided it's not terrible.

Similar to others here, the codes in the device provided by SofaBaton only work if you HOLD the button down. This is basically useless. There's a good chance that the official STR-DN1080 remote actually has different codes for whether you're holding the button or pressing it and Sofabaton have recorded the hold codes where the receiver expects the signal to hold for a certain time.

Funnily enough, this worked. Talk about a bad app!
