If it's the IR blaster, you can observe if the indicator light of the IR blaster blinks red when you press the buttons of the remote control. If it doesn't blink red, it could be a bad IR blaster. I just received by U2 command today and experienced the same slow volume issue with my Denon AVR-2311. I fixed this by modifying the volume up and down keys using the "learn from original remote" option. It now has the same response as the original volume buttons, slow when shortly pressed and fast when continuously pressed.
PS. it is a brand new U2 remote, and it has the latest firmware.
