Low Power issue - Sony TV

I have an issue with a Sony Android TV (Bravia kdl-55w800c) whereas everything works fine on new batteries but starts to fail after a week or so!  I sit around 3.5 metres from the device but have to move closer to control it as the batteries wane.
It appears once they get to around 1.45v I have to get as close as 2m away to get any response.
All other devices still work as expected.
I find I have to change batteries every couple of weeks just to control the TV.  This is rather frustrating.
Any thoughts on how I can resolve this?
