Not sure how to simulate holding number buttons down

On LG WebOS TVs application shortcuts can be created to easily switch between applications by holding down the number buttons of the remote. On the X1 remote holding down the number button does not seem to do anything. However, on the X1 holding the volume button does seem to repeat the command. So the question is how to simulate the holding down of a command such as a number button? Which I imagine means the command is repeated during that "hold" time but not totally sure.
