Direct TV and Vizio soundbar help

I have my Mother's TV and Blu-ray Player set up fine and the Direct TV is working well also but I wondered if there is a way to enter the channel numbers any other way than the scroll ball,I can only put in 1 number before the Direct TV changes to that channel and I need to enter 3 numbers. Also having lots of problems with her brand new Vizio M512a-H6 soundbar home theater system, can only get the power on/off and volume +/- to work, can't change inputs, even after trying to learn from the remote, or mute the sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
