IR signal to blasters too weak?

Hi all, I just got an X1 unit and am in the midst of setting it up. I currently have a Harmony Elite and doing a compare/contrast to the X1.

I did some testing and found that the IR strength on the X1 is vastly inferior to the Harmony Hub, but want to confirm here to make sure I perhaps do not have a defective unit.

The X1 blasters work, but they need to be right in front of the target device to work. By contrast, the Harmony Hub blasters can be much further away, say 8 - 12 inches, and still work fine.

It is not the IR blasters, either. I have a set of after-market IR blasters for my Harmony Hub that are 3.5mm mono (with a 2.5mm adapter). I plugged these blasters into the X1 to test if they still work - they are blasting, but the signal is still too weak to work from the current location. If I move them right in front of the target device's receiver, it works.

Thus, the problem seems to be that the X1 hub sends a weak IR signal to the blasters, and not the blasters themselves.

Is this normal, or do I perhaps have a defective unit?
