IR signal to blasters too weak?

Hi all, I just got an X1 unit and am in the midst of setting it up. I currently have a Harmony Elite and doing a compare/contrast to the X1.

I did some testing and found that the IR strength on the X1 is vastly inferior to the Harmony Hub, but want to confirm here to make sure I perhaps do not have a defective unit.

The X1 blasters work, but they need to be right in front of the target device to work. By contrast, the Harmony Hub blasters can be much further away, say 8 - 12 inches, and still work fine.

It is not the IR blasters, either. I have a set of after-market IR blasters for my Harmony Hub that are 3.5mm mono (with a 2.5mm adapter). I plugged these blasters into the X1 to test if they still work - they are blasting, but the signal is still too weak to work from the current location. If I move them right in front of the target device's receiver, it works.

Thus, the problem seems to be that the X1 hub sends a weak IR signal to the blasters, and not the blasters themselves.

Is this normal, or do I perhaps have a defective unit?

Can the blasters work independently as I have 2 same model tvs near to each other that use the same ir signal

Jgranto, I don’t believe your hub is defective; your presumption about the blasters is correct. For the last few days I’ve been struggling with getting everything to work and I just assumed it was code issues but then I disconnected the blasters and started moving the hub around. It now sits not adjacent to but off to the side of the entertainment shelves and slightly in front of my equipment. All,of the devices are working fine. I then did like you and covered up the hub and plugged in the blasters and only one of my devices was receiving a signal. The blasters just don’t put out as strong a signal as the hub does.

The hub is in a cabinet and I need to use the IR blasters. The problem, as stated, is that the blasters seem to have a VERY week signal. Even when I use the existing blasters I use with my Harmony, which are stuck in place, the Sofabaton hub is too weak to send a signal to the devices. The same happens when I use the Sofabaton blasters. This is not a flaw with the IR blasters, it seems to be a signal strength issue coming from the hub itself. What I am trying to determine is if this is a engineering flaw or if perhaps my hub is defective. If this is a design issue, then I pretty much have to stick the blasters in front of every device. For example, on my Integra receiver, the IR receiver is on the left side about midway up on the receiver. I have to have the blaster directly in front of this point - putting the blaster on the shelf about 1 inch away from the receiver does not work. I have to literally lift the blaster up about 2 - 3 inches for it to register. In effect, I would have to stick the blaster TO THE RECEIVER in order for it to work. Is this normal, or do I have a defective hub?
@SofaBaton: The IR balster may be 3 feet away but needs to be oriented correctly. More suitable for sticking near the device. If the hub is not in a cabinet, do not suggest use the IR blaxter, the infrared range of the hub is about 40 feet

I was playing with the X1 blasters the other day. First I disconnected the blaster and used only the hub, all worked in my configuration. Then I connected the external double blaster to the hub, placed the double blasters exactly where the hub was, and moved the hub back a bit and covered it so it's internal blasters were not involved. Basically, it didn't work, way less power than the hub, definitely should not be called 'blasters' at all. I went black to a properly located hub and it's fine.
