I've been struggling to get the app to connect to the hub and thought I'd share what has worked for me and what hasn't. I have a TP-LINK Deco mesh wifi network. Like most it will provide both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands by default. Some devices which only accept 2.4GHz will happily connect to the normal network, choosing the 2.4GHz band. For anything else I have a guest network enabled on the Deco which I force to 2.4GHz.
What hasn't worked for me is the Pixel 5 phone. It worked out of the box but as soon as I updated the latest firmware on the hub it pretty much refused to connect the app to the hub. I could connect the hub to any 2.4GHz wifi network but the app would not then connect.
I then tried using an older Sony Xperia XZ2 and found it much easier to connect.
In my case the app connected to the X1 hub using the regular dual band wifi network provided by the Deco. No issues connecting to different repeaters on the mesh.
I then reserved the IP address of the hub within my Deco network, I saw someone from Sofabaton hint at this in a post.
I think this is critical. https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1795/
With the Xperia and reserved IP set for the hub it's all connecting pretty well. Since I only need to use the app to configure devices it's not a major problem having to use a different device. Hopefully the issues that the Pixel 5 is having will be addressed.
Finally, use the adaptor provided to power the hub, I got mixed results using a different USB supply.
