No power button for Apple TV

maxafe 1 year ago ⋅ 2691 Read it

No matter how I add my Apple TV 4K (2021), the power button is always missing, which means I can't add it to my activities because it won't turn on/off. Is there a solution for this problem? Thank you.

Hi Maybe it will not work for all, but I found a solution for turning on my Apple TV with my Sofabaton X1 remote. The way it worked for me was to go the the Activity I wanted the Apple TV to be turned on by, and go to <Edit> in the top right corner, then go to <Startup settings> and in there press <Add a command> The command I added is set as follows: Device = Apple TV and Commands = Homepage The homepage button on the original Apple TV remote can be used to turning on the Apple TV box. For turning off the Apple TV I did not do anything, it seemed to work the whole time, I am not sure why, but could it be controlled via the Denon Receiver via the HDMI? I have no idea. My Apple TV is a 3rd gen with 128 GB HDD. I hope this helps.
@wisemanja: So here we are 4 months later and in all my communications with Sofabaton@outlook.com & Service@sofabaton.com I have been getting the same exact confusing answers from them. In all my research here, this is what I've found so far. - In general, the AppleTV remote talks with the AppleTV via bluetooth. If I understand correctly, the IR codes were mainly intended for support of other peripherals. I may have been doing it wrong, but when attempting to "Learn" the codes from the original AppleTV remote (ANY of them including the power button) to the U1, it is as though the original remote didn't even exist. Nothing transferred. The progress bar never started turning blue. - The SofaBaton IR code set for the AppleTV does NOT include any kind of power toggling code. Instead SofaBaton has assigned the AppleTV REBOOT code to the U1's power button. This will surely bring the AppleTV out of standby but it then restarts the AppleTV with the possible loss of previous conditions. Furthermore, if the AppleTV is already powered on, sending the reboot code does NOT place it back in standby. Instead, it reboots it again. A useless code mapped to a power button IMHO. - The SofaBaton code bluetooth code set for the AppleTV does NOT have ANYTHING mapped to the U!'s power button. Until you map something to it, pushing it will never cause anything to happen, There is only one code in the AppleTV bluetooth code set that seems appropriate here and that is the "Power" code. I have mapped that code to the U1's power button and attempted to pair it to the AppleTV but it didn't appear to make any difference. Pushing the U1 power button has no effect on the AppleTV. - There are distinct controls that will put the AppleTV in Standby. one of them is receiving a power off control message via the CEC messages over the HDMI connection. Also if I plug in an AppleTV that is not connected to anything else, I can toggle it between on and standby using the power button on the original remote.. Our friends at SofaBaton customer support do not seem to understand or believe that fact. - I believe that since the original remote was set up for bluetooth, I suspect that the solution will involve bluetooth. But there is either no appropriate codes in the sofabaton's database, or they are there but not properly identified (there are a few cryptic names there, and no well documented procedure to setting this up, or both. - Since the U1 is supposed to support bluetooth, it would sure be nice to have some procedures for setting it up. For example, the only way to put the U1 into pairing position to the AppleTV is done automatically after loading the bluetooth codes. If I lose the pairing later on, the only way to get back into the pairing mode, is to reload all the codes. Anyway, if anyone knows the correct incantation to make the power button on the U1 behave EXACTLY the same as the silver power button on the original silver AppleTV remote, I'd sure like to know about it. This issue does not appear to have been address by SofaBaton for many months so I'm going to just return mine while I have the time. Maybe they will eventually figure it out.

It is NOT correct that the Power button on the Apple TV 4K is meant to control the TV. It controls the Apple TV and the Apple TV receiving power triggers the CEC connection. This discrete and separate control can be easily proven by either 1) disabling CECon both devices, turning off both the TV and the Apple TV, and then pressing the Power button on the Apple TV remote and watching only the Apple TV turn on, or 2) leaving CEC enabled on both the TV and the Apple TV, pressing the Power button on the Apple TV remote, and seeing the Apple TV turn on first, and then the TV turning on around 1-2 seconds later. There is no good reason why the Sofabaton X1 shouldn’t have or at least be able to learn the Power button in an Apple TV codebase.

The power button of APPLE TV is actually to control the TV, which is matched with the manufacturer's equipment, so the remote of APPLE TV is equivalent to learning the power button of the original TV remote
@Slawo: It can be set up to turn off the TV in addition to stoping current video and turning off the signal on the Apple TV.

It can be set up to turn off the TV in addition to stoping current video and turning off the signal on the Apple TV.
@Slawo: This is not correct. The power button when the Apple TV is connected to a PC monitor for example will stop the current video, and turn off the output signal of the Apple TV without turning off the monitor.

@SofaBaton: The power for the Apple Tv is actually to control the Tv rather than the Apple Tv itself, For U1, you can use button allocation to assign power from other devices to the apple Tv for power control I took a video for you, hope it can help you better know how to Reassign Function https://youtu.be/HTKHJ2psmJ0
