New X1 update

4-11-2022 New update from Sofabaton for the new X1 remote.

I, like many other people, have had numerous issues with my remote. When I heard about the new update I wasn’t very hopeful that it would fix the issues that many of us have had. At 8:30am CST I was updating several iPhone apps and saw an update for the Sofabaton app.

Starting the update process was easy enough but the app asks you to leave the app alone for awhile (5mins) until the configuration is done. Not sure what that is about but I did what was asked. I noticed initially that there were no changes after the update. The remote still had issues and I did not see any obvious changes to the iPhone app. I did however go into the “Me” section at the bottom of the app. I clicked on “X1 Settings” then chose “Firmware update for X1 Remote”. Doing that actually showed me that the update was available to install. The button next to the update says “connect” for me. I clicked “connect” and it started another process of installing a firmware update. After completing I left the hub and remote alone for a few minutes because I wasn’t sure what would happen if I tried to use them right away. What I saw during the update process was the green light on the hub flashing and the screen on the remote showing progress in the form of a percentage number. Mine completed without a problem.

Once it was completed, I did start to use the remote as I normally would and noticed a couple of things right away. First, the remote options have not changed. Everything that you saw on the screen of the remote should be the same as before the update. Second and more importantly is the fact that a button press when the remote seems to be “sleeping” does not require a second press to complete your chosen function. This a HUGE relief. Multiple key presses sounds like a small annoyance but they are huge. I can confirm that on my remote a single press while the remote is asleep still sends that press and preforms the chosen function as intended. Connection to the hub from the app seems to work well for me after the update although I did not have huge problems with this before I updated.

Let’s talk about the app. Sure, the app still needs work but so far I have found the app to work a little better than before. I know some people may still be receiving the spinning wheel and a lost connection to the hub. My suggestion would be to remove the app completely from your device and reinstall fresh. If you are still having issues after doing that then I would also suggest a complete reset to factory defaults. I know that sounds like a hassle but, it might be a simple solution to try and get a device working that you paid good money for. Overall the new firmware delivers on what I needed this remote to do. I know that may not be the case for everyone but give everything a try and see what happens. After using the app for awhile I do continue to get messages on screen saying the hub is undergoing OTA maintenance and use it again after 2 minutes. The message has reappeared a few times so I am not sure if the hub is really undergoing maintenance or if it is another bug. Only time will tell on that matter.

I am a lot happier with my remote within the last hour of using it than I have been in the first two weeks I have owned it. It isn’t perfect but I think it will get there with additional updates.
