X1 - unable to connect if the WiFi network is using a class B

I many wireless devices so I do not use a 192.168.0.x (class C) network. I use a class B that is 172.16.x.x. If I put the X1 on that network my phone does not work.

I created a 10.x.x.x address and put my phone and the X1 on that network and it works but I really do not want to change my network around for one device.

Note, I have almost 300 WiFi devices here. It would take me weeks of work to rework all the firewall rules and due to the work I do I try to stay away from 10.x.x.x addresses since I VPN to customer networks all the time and do not want network conflicts.

Is this a known issue or something that just was never tested? Is there a way to get logs or see what is going on?

Has anyone else seen this?
