General Thoughts on the X1 after a week

I received my X1 about a week ago and here are some of my first impressions/thoughts/suggestions in no particular order.

  • Remote waking. I should not have to press a button multiple times. It should just keep in memory whatever button I pressed to wake the remote and send that command when ready. Having to press multiple times is not very user friendly.

  • Initial setup is clunky. It definitely needs to be streamlined. Everyone is going to be comparing to Harmony, and this is no where near as simple or intuitive as the Harmony setup process was.

  • The back button makes no sense in the top right corner. It should be beneath the screen, closer to the scroll wheel.

  • There should be a charging dock. Or even better, wireless charging. Maybe in the next revision?

  • You need to allow longer names for Activities. I like to name mine things like Watch TV, Play Xbox, Watch Apple TV, etc. These are all too long, and currently, my activities are named exactly the same as my devices and can cause confusion.

  • The little green tab thing to pull the film off the screen just pulled comepletely off when I pulled it. I was very confused and didn't know whether or not there was actually a film on the screen. I had to pick and scratch for quite a while to get the actual film off, the whole while not actually knowing if there was one or I was just picking at the screen itself.

  • English translation is not very good. From the instructions to the app, none of the English translation is very good. It comes off as very unprofessional/unpolished. For example, it took me longer than I care to admit to realize "High Frequency Problem" was actually the FAQ section. I thought it was going to be something about like a buzzing or something coming from the remote.

  • Overall I'm actually pretty satisfied. I would love for the issues I mentioned above to be addressed. But in the end, I got my remote working, and for the most part, it works as I expected. With some work, I can see this being a decent replacement for my Harmony. As it is right now, I wouldn't recommend it for any but the most hardcore tech enthusiest/Harmony fans.
