Press to Wake

From the comments and validation on Kickstarter, it sounds like there is no accelerometer in the X1 to allow for 'lift to wake'. Instead the option to press to wake was decided. However, this seems counterproductive to having a remote that is always ready to send a signal. Instead we're having to press a button 2 or 3 times before an actual command is sent. Would it be possible to simply send the command from the button that was used to wake the remote so that we don't have to always explicitly wake the remote first? I've never had a remote that you needed to wake up before sending a command (unless it was lift to wake). I understand the need to preserve battery life but this press to wake solution is equally as annoying as having a bright screen always on. Or perhaps another solution would be only to put the screen to sleep and not the whole remote. I would gladly give a little battery life for this.
