I bought into the hype of the X1 on Kickstarter, and that's my fault. I should have at least taken a single look at the app reviews before I bought in.
The app is basically useless on Android. I can sucessfully make it to the WiFi setup screen, but then it asks for the password, and the confirm button is not even on the screen. The dialog box does not accept "enter" as confirm, so there's no way to actually get this thing set up on WiFi on Android.
I grabbed an iPhone X I had laying around, and finally managed to get the thing connected to WiFi. Then the iOS app, which seems to somehow be worse than the Android app, decided it didn't want to connect anymore to the X1.
I switched over to the Android app again. The Android app puts a persistant notification in your status bar that just sits there doing nothing. Yay.
I was able to add my TV, Hue hub, Sonos speaker, and an Apple TV. This is as far as I've gotten so far, and I doubt I'm going any farther than this.
When adding any device, the app will put any length name it feels like as the default for that device. If you decide to edit the name, you're limited to 11 characters for a name. Are you serious? The default for my Sonos speaker was "Sonos Play:3". I tried to rename it, but could only fit "Kitchen Son" in the name box. Awesome.
I have a recent model Sony TV. The app tells me that it found the model, and it downloads the code for it (which, by the way, is the ugliest looking download bar with text that makes no sense), but then asks me to configure all of the inputs, power commands, etc. What was the point? If I have to set the thing up on my own, what do I need you for?
The interface of the app is one of the ugliest, most rushed things I've ever seen in any smart home product. It is barely functional, and crashes if you stare too hard at the screen.
I regret my purchase, and I wish I had bought this from a store where I could return it.
