My Thoughts on the Sofabaton X2 after a couple of months

So FWIW I previously had a pair of X1's (Kickstarter customer) which I eventually abandoned - my wife and kids just didnt find them intuitive and there where too many annoying issues (eg no seprate play / pause button). I was initially very positive about the X1, but in the end they went into a drawer and I went back to my URC MX980's.

The X2 on the other hand is much better in every respect, the button layout is great and my only HW critique's are the lack of backlight for the Back / Favs capacitive buttons and the the jump from 5% to 10% brightness is a bit high (halfway betweent the two would be a nice option).

In terms of the Remote itself, it feels fantastic and very premium, and having a proper charging dock was sorely needed (My URC and harmony remotes had this so it was a mandatory feature IMO).

So far I've found the software improvements (App and Remote) to be a very large step forward too and I only have a few items I'd like to see improved:

  • Adding an additional device to an existing activity forgets your configured inputs for the existing devices - please fix!
  • Why do we need to add a device to an activity so we can add buttons to the favorites?
    • eg I just added my Hubitat Hub for IP control of lighting etc, and now I need to add it to 8 different activities before I can add lighting scenes to the favorites for each. Just seems very unnecessary for this scenario.
  • It would be nice if we could copy multiple favorites buttons from one activity to another
    • eg I have a set of AVR audio presets and Lighting scenes I want available on all 8 activities and setting up each one for every activity is a chore. On my old URC remotes I can just clone the whole favs page.
  • Please allow macros to be called from startup / shutdown sequences.
    • It would also be nice if we could clone existing steps in macros. eg if the down button needs to be pressed 5 times, this gets tedious to add manually.
  • Minor bug - sometimes when I've spent a bunch of time setting up favs etc, my X2 remote loses all the activities I was working on until I Sync it. Perhaps syncing after every little change during setup is too much?

Otherwise, fantastic work Sofabaton team, I finally have a true replacement for my URC and Harmony remotes - I will be buying a second unit to replace my last old URC MX980.
