Setting up a new u2

Just got my U2. Thought I would give you my take so far (previous remote - Harmony 650)

I have a Philips TV, a Denon AVR, Freesat box, Apple tv box and a DVD player. 5 remotes worth. My systems are all HDMI 2.3 and all go into the Denon amp then by single HDMI to the ARC (tv) HDMI. So, I require the remote to not only swith on the devices but to change the required HDMI output to the TV on the Amp, etc etc.

Instructions were almost non-existant for the U2 but I found by perseverance that each remote (5 noted above) has 4 colour macros. So with the remote set on Philips TV I set up each colour to start the relevant activity (relevant devices on and setup - HDMI's etc). The problem comes when you are say watching the Freesat and want to go to Apple TV. What I have done is select each colour to a device, Red - Philips TV, Green - Freesat, Yellow - Apple TV and blue - DVD. To switch between activities I have had to use the colour macros in the various device remote macros. So, for instance; if I am watching Freesat and want to switch to Apple tv then I thumb the handset to Apple TV and select the yellow macro button. This then changes the Denon AVR input, switches the Freesat to standby etc!

Is there a better way?

Plus, found that after programming each remote to activate the sound up/down/mute from the Denon AVR- the rate of change of volume is dreadful! Is there a way to quicken the response? At the moment I can set volumes quicker by running over to the denon, dropping to my knees, altering the volume and then running back to sit down and it is still quicker than this U2 remote! Help on that please.

My journey so far.

(EDIT) - Actually - I've binned the U2! Set against the Harmony 650 the U2 is a non-starter. Lesson for me, don't rush into buying something that doesn't work! Hopefully my Harmony will continue working longer than I expected it to.

Reasons: As stated above, the operation of the handset keys is hit/miss, sound control of the Denon is woeful through the U2, but the main reason is the poor way on this U2 handset that you are required to activate an ACTIVITY, a set of actions. The colour macro butons are not a good solution, may be for me as I can remember what colour on what induvidual handset does what, but how do I explain that to others, visitors, family, etc, apart from a lengthy written document on the cofee table advertising what key does what!

I tried another way by programming the OFF button right at the top of the handset but that relies on you selecting the correct handset first (ie, Freesat or Apple tv etc) then pressing the OFF (macro) to switch that particular selection of equipments on. Same problem.

The only real way of switching between devices with the U2 is to fully switch off then switch on again with the correct Macro button (if you can remember what colour does what).

That's why the Harmony 650 (price point) is just head and shoulders above the U2! It's smart too as it knows which devices you require and automatically switches off those you don't want on. Changing between devices is also easy as you have a screen with names and buttons to press so others can use it without extensive instructions.

Sorry Sofabaton you have a long way to go - but you got some of my cash...........P.S. You have spelt the blue SUBMIT button as SUMBIT..........
