Can the x1 control two devices at once?

I want to control the volume of my Sony receiver and change channels...etc of my DIRECTV box WITHOUT having to switch from one to the other. Is this possible? In other words while the DIRECTV box is selected I want the volume up/down to control the volume on the receiver.
