Apple TV Sleep command doesn't work

On my X1, there is a command for Sleep, but it doesn't do anything.  When I finish watching my Apple TV, it stays on until it eventually goes to sleep on its own (from system preferences).  Since it's connected via bluetooth, I cannot train the X1 with what the command is.
