Help With Alexa

The instructions on how to get an X1 to work with Alexa are severealy lacking.  So here's how I got it to work:

  1. Set up devices as described in instructions
  2. Set up Activities as described in instructions
  3. Add/enable the Sofabaton skill in Alexa and link to your Alexa/Amazon account
  4. Let Alexa app discover new devices.  This didn't add anything under the "devices" list, but it imported the aforementioned Activities as Scenes which by itself accomplishes nothing.
  5. In order to voice control/actuate your activities/scenes in the Alexa app, you'll need to create Routines.  For example, here's how you do that:
    1. I named the first one Watch TV.
    2. Complete the "when this happens" step, choose VOICE from the menu that appears, then type what you want to say to make this scene play - I typed "watch TV"
  6. To complete the setup of the routine in the Alexa app, you need to "Add action."  Because it would be logical and intuitive if SCENES was an option in the next menu when you tap the + adjacent to Add action, it's of course NOT an option in the next menu.  Instead, you have to tap SMART HOME in the resulting menu of 26 items, then SCENES in the next menu that appears after that.  At that point, you should see your SofaBaton activities/scenes.  Pick the one you want and the next screen will ask you if you want to turn the scene on or off.  You'll choose ON of course.
  7. The foregoing steps worked perfectly and I can voice command turning on my TV, cable box and receiver and setting my receive to HDMI2 input by saying "Alexa, watch TV."  Did the same thing for my Roku with the receiver switching automatically to the appropriate HDMI input.  Then I created a "Turn off the TV" routine that turned off both scenes (you can have one routine turn off multiple scenes).
