Can't Connect X1 Hub

Brand new, out of the box from Amazon. I power everything up, get the flashing blue/purple light, find the hub on my app, select it, hook up my wifi with password (which is 2.4G),  go through the secreen with 4 green checkmarks confirming wifi connection, everytihng seems great but then the problem begins. the Next screen I get is "Connect to Hub", "Select the Desired Hub aon your local Nerwork" , but all i get is a spinning circle, nothing shows. The light is solid green on the front of the hub. I tried poweirng and unpowering the hub, shutting the app for five minutes, etc, nothing works. I have a Verizon Fios router. I am not getitng to the ability to update the firmware, which may be the trick -- but like I said, I cant get there. Any ideas or just return it to Amazon dissapointed?
