Why can't bluetooth keys be used in macros?

Is there a technical reason why bluetooth keys can't be used in Macro keys?
if you have a Nivida shield it really limits how the remote can be setup.

I am tempted to get a FLIRC usb IR and use that so I can fully automate the Nvidia Shield.
