Switching activities

I'm looking for a solution here when switching between activities (for example from watching Blu-ray to watching apple Tv) my receiver where all components are plugged in shuts down while other components stay on. If I add another power up command then the receiver shuts down and powers up again but does not switch to the correct input for the new activity. Any recommendations?
