Sometimes remote key presses not working until opening app

Once in a while nothing happens when pressing a key on the remote, for example the off button.

If I open the sofabaton app on my android phone all of a sudden the off sequence starts working.

    This happens when I press the off switch to switch off my TV (Sharp), Receiver (Onkyo) and STB (Ziggo Mediabox). This has nothing to do with the code base for these devices! The remote is trying to connect to the hub. This does not work until I connect to the hub with the app than all devices get switched off. Same happens sometimes when starting an activity.
